“JOURNEY TO A DREAM” IS A JOINT PROJECT OF HEŘMAN VOLF, A HANDICAPPED SPORTSMAN, AND A PRODUCTION COMPANY MILD PRODUCTION. SINCE THE BEGINNING OF 2011 A COMPANY NEVER GIVE UP HAS BEEN ALSO PART OF THE PROJECT.

THE MAJOR AIM OF THE PROJECT IS TO SHOW TO THE PUBLIC AND ABOVE ALL TO THOSE WHO, LIKE HEŘMAN, ALL OF A SUDDEN FOUND THEMSELVES DEPENDENT ON A WHEELCHAIR THAT BEING DISABLED DOES NOT PREVENT THEM FROM BEING ACTIVE, ENGAGING IN SPORTS OR MAKING THEIR DREAMS COME TRUE.

“JOURNEY TO A DREAM” IS A LONG-TERM PROJECT. IN ADDITION TO THE AIM TO SPREAD THE MESSAGE THAT LIFE ON A WHEELCHAIR DOES NOT MEAN THE END OF THE LIFE, THE PROJECT IS BUILD AROUND FOUR HAND BIKE JOURNEYS MADE BY HEŘMAN VOLF AND THE MILD PRODUCTION TEAM IN THE COURSE OF FOUR YEARS - ONE JOURNEY A YEAR. ALL JOURNEYS SET OUT FROM PRAGUE, EACH TOWARDS ONE OF THE FOUR CARDINAL POINTS. THE ONLY MEANS OF TRANSPORT USED BY HEŘMAN THROUGHOUT EACH JOURNEY IS HIS HAND BIKE.

Journey to a dream

PROJECT

In 2009 Heřman headed west and hand cycled 1355 km all the way to Paris, France. The following year he turned eastwards and on his way to Banská Bystrica, Slovakia, covered 664 km. This year Heřman aims to go southwards to Rome, Italy, hand cycling some 1500 km and accomplishing his (so far) longest journey. The fourth journey scheduled for summer 2012 will be oriented towards the far north, the final destination being Oslo, Norway. Though the last journey will be a climax of one project, it will not be and cannot be its end because journeys to dreams never end.

N There are a lot of those who decided to engage in sports despite their handicap, however, we believe that there is many more of those who would like to overcome their handicap by engaging in sports but simply do not know how to start. Moreover, those who are handicapped and do sports are very often not ‘seen’ by the public which only reinforces the common attitude that “you can’t do sports when on wheelchair.” The goal of our project therefore is to show the activities and lives of the disabled people to the outer world and to prove that “you simply can, even with a wheelchair.”

A key part of the project are public talks, screenings of our films and other forms of presentation of our activities by which Heřman Volf and Miloslav Doležal promote our believe that “a wheelchair is not the end of active life.”
