“JOURNEY TO A DREAM” IS A JOINT PROJECT OF HEŘMAN VOLF, A HANDICAPPED SPORTSMAN, AND A PRODUCTION COMPANY MILD PRODUCTION. SINCE THE BEGINNING OF 2011 A COMPANY NEVER GIVE UP HAS BEEN ALSO PART OF THE PROJECT.
THE MAJOR AIM OF THE PROJECT IS TO SHOW TO THE PUBLIC AND ABOVE ALL TO THOSE WHO, LIKE HEŘMAN, ALL OF A SUDDEN FOUND THEMSELVES DEPENDENT ON A WHEELCHAIR THAT BEING DISABLED DOES NOT PREVENT THEM FROM BEING ACTIVE, ENGAGING IN SPORTS OR MAKING THEIR DREAMS COME TRUE.
“JOURNEY TO A DREAM” IS A LONG-TERM PROJECT. IN ADDITION TO THE AIM TO SPREAD THE MESSAGE THAT LIFE ON A WHEELCHAIR DOES NOT MEAN THE END OF THE LIFE, THE PROJECT IS BUILD AROUND FOUR HAND BIKE JOURNEYS MADE BY HEŘMAN VOLF AND THE MILD PRODUCTION TEAM IN THE COURSE OF FOUR YEARS - ONE JOURNEY A YEAR. ALL JOURNEYS SET OUT FROM PRAGUE, EACH TOWARDS ONE OF THE FOUR CARDINAL POINTS. THE ONLY MEANS OF TRANSPORT USED BY HEŘMAN THROUGHOUT EACH JOURNEY IS HIS HAND BIKE.
The first journey within the project “Journey to a Dream” took place in 2009 and its destination was Paris, France.
Exactly a week after the famous Parisian Arc de Triomphe in the centre of the Place Charles de Gaulle welcomed the equally famous Tour de France bicycle race, it witnessed another triumphal achievement as a Czech hand biker reached its foundations on Saturday August 1, 2009. Heřman Volf hand cycled 1355 km in 17 days and covered the complete distance from Prague to Paris only on the hand bike under his own power.
Heřman’s goal was to hand cycle under the Arc de Triomphe, which he sees as a symbol of strong will and determination, to show his determination to struggle with the accident that put him on a wheelchair.
The journey took place under the auspices of JUDr. Cyril Svoboda, the then Minister for Regional Development, and the French-Czech Chamber of Commerce.
