Heřman was born in 1965. As a 4-year old he started with competitive swimming and he has been an active sportsman ever since - besides swimming he did endurance running, javelin throw, speed canoeing, triathlon, cycling, skiing, diving... He is married and has two daughters.
Then, all of a sudden in 2006 his life changed completely after a serious skiing accident when he suffered a spinal cord injury. Thanks to his family, friends and above all his strong will, he was able to return to the everyday life in 9 months. Regular rehabilitation and tireless exercising put him back on skis - or rather a monoski - exactly a year after the accident. Soon he also returned to cycling and on the hand bike began to follow his dreams.
He got a new job, his life got a new meaning.
Heřman about the project “Journey to a Dream”:
“Life’s not about whether you have this or that. What matters is what you desire and how much will you have. A will to fight with your destiny and to prove that everything can be coped with. Thanks to the wheelchair I met a lot of wonderful people who helped me to see that I can still pursue my dream, no matter what happened. And, I am one of those who like to make their dreams come true... One of my dreams is to travel through (at least a part of) Europe under my own power and I realized that by accomplishing this dream I may help also someone else who has found themselves in the same situation as I was just several years ago. To help them to realize that the accident does not mean the end of the life and that something new and wonderful is just about to begin.”
